Fujifilm ambassador Kreesan Naidoo was highly keen to get his hands on the instax mini Evo Cinema. We chatted to him after he had some time to play around with it.
My favourite feature would have to be creating nostalgic video snippets. I was able to record my 15 second clips on the Evo Cinema, pick a snippet picture off of the video and use that as my thumbnail for the print. It overlayed the QR code with the video link on there so anyone can follow the link and watch the video. I found it adds so much more creativity to what is possible with these cameras.
Which video era on the era dial did you like best?
1990 between 50% to 100% intensity was definitely my favourite era to film on since I got the classic ‘VHS’ style look in my footage. It gave the sense of nostalgia that this camera intended to deliver. I really like the 2010 era as well with the YouTube style overlay, and I found that the 2020 era had a ‘LOG’ style.
Who would you recommend the Evo Cinema to?
Everyone in my opinion will have fun with the Evo Cinema, it’s not a tech product that will collect dust on your shelf, it’s something you’ll take around with you just as much as you would your camera. I do feel content creators will have a blast with the Evo Cinema, maybe even videographers looking for something a bit more toned down and fun to use.
Is there something you feel must be mentioned about the Mini Evo?
The combination of 10 era dials and 10 levels of intensity give you over 100 combinations to choose from, and not forgetting it isn’t just for video, it comes with a ‘Still’ mode for images. Also, the design makes it comfortable to hold and it’s probably the best-looking Instax camera I’ve had the privilege of using.
